In a few days I will publish my first texts on the prologue of Matthew´s Gospel, chapters 1-2.
They will contain informed comment and also theological reflection.
It is good that understanding increases – study is profitable.
In the last analysis though, there remains mystery – a wonderful mystery!
It has to be so!
For in the last analysis, these stories (in Matthew and Luke) are the record of how God became man – how the reality of God broke in upon the finite reality that is our world.
In that intersection, miracles happen!
There are dreams, there are angels, there are Magi (wise men) that follow a star, a child is born of a virgin.
This is not the kind of stuff that the rational mind can ever come to grips with.
I understand that 2+2 =4. But my faith is not nourished by that fact.
Neither is that fact anything to die for, or to live by!
The Gospels are both! And the Christmas story is part of the Gospel story!
I therefore rejoice in these wonderful biblical texts as Christmas approaches!
If you read anything I have written, it is my prayer that you will be profited by it!
