About me

Hi!

My name is Karl Nilsen. I am a retired teacher of mathematics, religious instruction and English, having taught these subjects to 13-16 year olds in Norway for approximately 40 years. I studied Pure Mathematics, Biblical Studies and Church History at Durham University in the UK in the 1970s

English is my first language, hence a blog in English!

I have a family, and live in Oslo.

Why I write a blog:

The New Testament, its language, history, literature and theology, have been of special interest to me for many years, though I do not pretend to have kept up to date with every new trend.

I primarily want my blog to be devotional – to bring encouragement if I can – and to educate.

When I say “devotional and encouraging”, it means I try to stay away from contentious theological issues – such as divide Christians – and deal with technical issues of language, history or theology, to the degree that it is deemed helpful.

I also want my blog to be read, so I strive to write primarily (though not exclusively) short texts.

There is no orderly plan governing what I write about. Instead, a verse or passage of Scripture which I feel God has been speaking to me about, will get my attention, or a topic which I feel needs to be dealt with. Posting frequency? This varies, between daily, and weekly. The Bible translation I use is the ESV, unless otherwise indicated.
