The second thought I want to draw from the life of Abraham is from Genesis 15,1:
“After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward. ” NIV
God has elected Abram from all the families of the earth to know him, to walk before him, to be in a covenant relationship with him (Gen. 15,7-20), and to be the bearer of a promise that in him shall all the earth be blessed (Gen.12,1-3).
The good news is this:
When we believe in Jesus, the God of Abraham has become our Father. Even more wonderfully is he, our shield and very great reward!
The last 3 verses of Psalm 91 read:
14 “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;
I will protect him, because he knows my name.
15 When he calls to me, I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”
We need to notice that: «I will be with him in trouble», means that we won’t always escape the trouble, yet “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him”. It is in his deliverance that we get to know who God is!
And I believe, that whatever the circumstances, our Father will shield us and care for us, as we cast all our cares upon him (1 Peter 5,7).
Let us with Mary, rejoice in God our Saviour (Lk. 1,47)
