“The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.”
1 Tim. 1:5 ESV
Paul’s two letters to Timothy are gold, especially for any young person seeking strength and guidance for their Christian lives. I often read them.
The above verse can be taken as a kind of program for the Christian life: love, issuing from a pure heart, a good conscience and a sincere faith.
Love: The word in Greek is agape (αγάπη) – the word used for God’s love, as in when “God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son” Jn. 3:16
The pure heart: You keep that heart above all things, for the springs of life flow from it (Prov. 4:23)
A good conscience: You are one of these people for whom the law according to Paul was not laid down, see 1 Tim. 1:8-11. Though far from perfect, you seek friendship with the Father and with the Lord Jesus Christ.
A sincere faith: You have an honest heart and you seek truth with him who is the truth.
The charge, the commandment of love, issuing from a pure heart, a good conscience and a sincere faith!
Wow! This should keep us on track!
BE BLESSED!😊
ADDITIONAL NOTE:
The aim of our charge: In Greek the telos (τέλος) of our charge – telos as in telescope- in other words the end goal/purpose! The word charge is usually translated commandment (παραγγελία)!
So: “The aim of our charge” or “the end goal/purpose of the commandment” equally makes good sense! Note other translations.
