It was said of Abraham that he was the friend of God! (James 2,23). He walked by faith! He is the archetype of the New Testament believer. We are all friends of God in Christ Jesus. We are more! We are the Father’s children! (Romans 8,15).
If you know anything about Abraham, you know he was not perfect. Neither are you or I – yet by his grace he still calls us friends, he still calls us children!
I think I if I were to guess at what friendship means to God, it would have to boil down to 3 words: FAITH, FAITHFULNESS AND OBEDIENCE!
FAITH: To please God, I must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of those who (Gr. diligently) seek him. (Heb. 11,6)
FAITHFULNESS: God is faithful! He is faithful to his word, and he is faithful to his friends! We are to be imitators of him. Ephesians 5,1 says: “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.” I want to be like my father – in all things! By his mercy and grace – I shall be – one day! Now I want to seek to be faithful to him, and faithful in all my relationships, as far as I am able to be.
OBEDIENCE: We are to do what pleases him. I just love what Jesus said: “I always do what pleases him!” (John. 8,29), and “My food is to do the will of him who sent me!” (John 4,34). Jesus also said to his disciples: “You are my friends if you do what I command you“. That commandment was to love!😊 (John 13,34-35)
Let us in these times of lockdown draw closer to our God and Father, and to our Lord Jesus Christ!
AND REMEMBER: NO CONDEMNATION! 😀👍
We can draw near to him with faith and confidence, though we are certainly imperfect in many ways! (Heb. 4,16) – by the blood of Jesus!😀👍
