May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus… (Rom 15,5)

What a wonderful verse popped up on my YouVersion Bible app today!(verse of the day)

THE GOD OF ENDURANCE AND ENCOURAGEMENT

These are two genitives in the Greek (of endurance and of encouragement). There are several types of genitive, and in translation, you have to try and pick the right one. These are most naturally taken as genitives of source; that is, they indicate the source from which something comes!

So, the God from whom endurance comes, and the God from whom encouragement comes.

Do you remember the last post? John´s word for the Holy Spirit, and the meaning of it?

We surely need endurance (see Heb 10,36), and ENCOURAGEMENT every day!

..GRANT YOU TO LIVE IN SUCH HARMONY WITH ONE ANOTHER, IN ACCORD WITH CHRIST JESUS

“…live in such harmony…”: Paul’s Greek is: “think/mind the same thing!

Is he making reference to the issues in the previous chapter (you need to read ch. 14) about food and sacred days? Perhaps he is? But the general point he wants to make is in ch. 14,9-10: We should not pass judgement on one for whom Christ died!

Being united to Christ through faith, means we are united to each other, through the same faith – so we are to love – we are to love our brothers and sisters, and not sit in judgement over their opinions on this and that! A harmony based on love, not on agreement on every issue.

Something which is not being observed in the British Parliament right now, you may have observed!!
